Our in-house software team builds and maintains the web applications that run the business, and we are modernising our internal systems by converting legacy Visual Basic applications into modern React-based applications.
About the role
This is a permanent full-time position (38 hours per week) based on-site at Mooroolbark in Melbourne’s outer east, reporting to the Software Development Manager / Technical Lead. Salary is $75,000 to $85,000 per annum plus superannuation, depending on experience.
As a Junior Front-End Developer you will deliver assigned front-end components and features end to end, from requirements analysis through development, API integration, testing, deployment support and production hot fixes, under the guidance of senior technical staff.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain responsive web applications using ReactJS, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, CSS and Material UI
- Build reusable components, forms, dialogs, tables, search functions and validation workflows
- Review and interpret existing Visual Basic code, screens and workflows, and convert approved legacy functionality into modern React-based components while preserving required system behaviour
- Integrate front-end applications with RESTful APIs and internal business services using JSON payloads, and manage application state, data flow, validation and error handling
- Investigate, reproduce and resolve software defects, and develop, test and deploy production hot fixes in accordance with source control, testing and release procedures
- Test new features, perform regression testing and verify responsive behaviour across supported browsers and devices
- Participate in code reviews, Agile ceremonies and sprint planning, and maintain technical notes and work items
- Collaborate with front-end and back-end developers, business analysts, testers, product owners and internal stakeholders
Skills and experience required
- Bachelor degree, diploma or relevant qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Web Development or a related discipline
- Practical experience developing front-end applications using ReactJS, JavaScript or TypeScript and integrating RESTful APIs
- Ability to read existing code, analyse software requirements and application workflows, and contribute to front-end solution design
- Working knowledge of responsive design, component-based development, Git-based source control and debugging
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills, with attention to detail and a willingness to learn
