Introduction

We are looking for a skilled Intermediate Node.js / React Developer to join our growing development team. The successful candidate will be responsible for building, enhancing, and maintaining modern web applications using Node.js on the backend and React on the frontend. You will work closely with designers, product managers, and other developers to deliver scalable, high-quality solutions that meet business and user needs.

Duties & Responsibilities

Frontend (React)

  • Develop and maintain responsive user interfaces using React
  • Work with modern state management solutions (e.g. Context API, Redux, Zustand)
  • Translate UI/UX designs into clean, reusable, and maintainable components
  • Optimize frontend performance and ensure cross-browser compatibility
  • Write unit and integration tests for frontend components

Backend (Node.js)

  • Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs (and/or GraphQL)
  • Implement server-side logic using Node.js frameworks (Express, NestJS, Fastify)
  • Integrate with databases (SQL and/or NoSQL)
  • Implement authentication and authorization mechanisms
  • Ensure application security, performance, and scalability

General

  • Participate in sprint planning, code reviews, and technical discussions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement features
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues
  • Maintain clear documentation of code and system functionality
  • Follow best practices in software development and DevOps

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • 3+ years of professional experience in JavaScript / TypeScript
  • Must have BSc Computer Science or BSc Information Technology
  • Strong experience with React and modern frontend development practices
  • Solid backend experience with Node.js
  • Experience building and consuming APIs
  • Working knowledge of databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB)
  • Experience with Git-based version control (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket)
  • Understanding of asynchronous programming and event-driven architecture
  • Familiarity with testing frameworks (Jest, Mocha, Cypress, etc.)

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • TypeScript (frontend and backend)
  • GraphQL
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Docker and containerization
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
  • Exposure to Next.js or similar frameworks

Package & Remuneration

R32 000 p/m depending on experience
