Intermediate Front-End Developer | Full time, permanent
Works onsite in Calgary, AB
Work schedule: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Mandatory in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Friday
Remote optional days are on Wednesday and Thursday
About the Role
Tiller is looking for an experienced Front-End Developer with deep expertise in custom WordPress development—not just modifying themes but truly building WordPress from the ground up. But more than just a developer, we need someone who is obsessed with quality—someone who ensures that work is done right the first time, built to spec with little to no rework, and proactively addresses usability and functionality issues before they become problems.
If you can develop custom themes and plugins, optimize performance, and work with the WordPress ecosystem at a code level, we want to talk to you.
What you get to do:
Collaborate closely with project managers, designers, and other developers to bring client visions to life.
Build custom, high-quality websites and web applications—no off-the-shelf templates—using WordPress, ACF, Gutenberg blocks, and the WordPress REST API.
Develop scalable, high-performance websites using modern tools and frameworks like React, Next.js, and Tailwind CSS.
Optimize websites for speed, SEO, performance, and accessibility to ensure seamless user experiences.
Research and experiment with emerging technologies to improve internal development standards and push innovation.
Write clean, reusable, well-documented code that maintains long-term reliability and scalability.
Troubleshoot and debug technical issues, proactively identifying and solving problems.
Advocate for fresh, creative solutions while balancing technical feasibility and best practices.
Work in a fast-paced agency environment, managing multiple projects without sacrificing quality.
You may be fit for this role if you have:
5+ years of professional experience as a Front-End Developer, building and optimizing websites with HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
Expertise in custom WordPress development, including building custom themes and plugins from scratch, and deep knowledge of hooks, actions, filters, and APIs.
Strong familiarity with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), WooCommerce, Gravity Forms, and Yoast SEO, with a focus on performance, security, and scalability.
Ability to translate Figma designs into pixel-perfect, responsive code while collaborating closely with designers.
A strong understanding of QA best practices—you write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and ensure cross-browser compatibility and accessibility.
Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills—you proactively identify and prevent issues before they arise.
Familiarity with modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue, Next.js, Node.js, Express) and design systems like Tailwind, Material UI, and Bootstrap (bonus but not required).
A problem solver with a keen eye for usability, accessibility, and optimization—always looking for better solutions.
A self-motivated, organized professional who communicates effectively with teams and clients, balancing multiple projects without sacrificing quality.
Success in this role looks like:
You deliver high-quality, well-optimized websites that meet client needs with minimal revisions.
You proactively solve problems and contribute innovative ideas rather than waiting for direction.
Your code is clean, efficient, and well-documented, setting a standard for maintainability.
You collaborate effectively, communicating clearly with designers, strategists, other developers, and clients.
You stay ahead of industry trends and bring fresh insights to improve processes and outcomes.
