Job Description:

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking a Senior full-stack Java & React Developer to build and support micro-services and React applications used across multiple teams within the Department. The Senior Applications Developer will develop and maintain cloud-based applications. The ability to communicate with technical team members, business users, and management is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design scalable and maintainable systems
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-tested Java code
  • Review code and guide junior developers
  • Troubleshoot performance and production issues

Examples of Work

  • Expert in the design, coding, and deployment of micro-services and React applications.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and peers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Develop, and deploy scalable micro-services and REST APIs.
  • Develop front-end applications using React and ensure they are optimized for performance, scalability, and security.
  • Expertise in working with databases and data manipulation techniques (relational and non-relational) in Azure cloud environments.
  • Conduct and lead unit, integration, and customer acceptance testing, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Document technical solutions, application architecture, and development processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues under tight timeframes, occasionally

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering or other related field and two years of experience, education, or training in coding computer applications; programming experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

Over 3 years of experience across the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including:

  • Effort estimation and capacity planning
  • Roadmap and target date planning
  • Work plan creation, tracking, and delivery management
  • Stakeholder communication and cross-team coordination
  • Quality assurance and testing strategies
  • Modern development and testing methodologies (Agile, CI/CD)
  • Implementation planning and production deployment
  • Strong core Java (collections, streams, concurrency)
  • Experience with frameworks like Spring Boot
  • Knowledge of REST APIs and microservices architecture
  • Database experience (SQL/NoSQL)
  • Familiarity with tools like Docker and Kubernetes

Other: No remote work. Position is located at the Nebraska State Office Building in Lincoln. Regular and reliable attendance required.
